Crediton 2nd Winter Series 03/01/2010
South West Motocross Club started its 2010 calendar with round 2 of its winter series at a freezing frost hit Crediton circuit. .Practising was delayed for an hour whilst the committee attempted to defrost the track, and after a 20 min AMX practise session the track was in raceable condition .
First out were the Open/AMX bikes, Ryan Allen had the holeshot and set an early pace closely followed by Darren Banwell and the chasing pack. At half distance the duo had gapped the rest by 10 seconds but Allen wasn’t prepared to give anything away ,with 2 laps to go Darren ate into the lead and closed the gap to a second. The last lap confrontation came to a finale at the final bend when after a last ditch manouver from Banwell ,Allen put the power down too hard on the frosty ground and span out giving the win to Darren.Tom Brown collected a 3rd and 2nd positions , Ricky Griffiths and Chester Blair were next to finish.
Senior Ben Butler took a pair of wins although fast starting Ed Turner took the first holeshot and Newcomer to the group Jed Coaker finished a creditable 2nd in race 1. Tom Gibbons had a great day with 2nd overall , Jack Stevens and Simon Gill were next home.
Big wheel race 1 holeshot was taken by 3rd placed Jason Brook who was the only one brave enough to double in the freezing conditions. Winner Josh Taylor and 3rd placed Ollie Jones took a win apiece and changed track position regularly throughout each encounter .Connor Palmer kept out of trouble for 4th overall on the day.
Newly mounted 4 stroke rider Ben Gibbons took the small wheel holeshot but crashed hard on the first down hill section handing the lead and win to twostroke rider Dean Symons . Dean went on to win both races by a long way . Daniel Furse and Luke Oldfield shared the 2nds,, as did Ben with George Rowson for the 3rds .
The first Junior race was stopped after Matt Treen crashed out of the lead and had to be taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg. The re-run was won by Harry Kimber who was chased hard by Aiden Williams, Henry Bees and Todd Sawyer. Race 2 was once again won by Harry as the chasing pack changed overall positions.
Only five auto pilots braved the near freezing conditions on an increasingly demanding track. Harrison Shepperd took the first holeshot and overall win from Archie Bees , Harvey James , Joseph Ackerlay and Harry Rowe.
The club would like to thank everyone who .braved the conditions and hope to see you all again at the next meeting
