Honiton Race Report 1st club champs

South West Motocross Club started its 2010 club championships with a cracking event at the picturesque Honiton venue.

The 120 riders practised and raced on the new track laid out over the natural rugged grassy hillside circuit.

First to race were the automatics . Most of them slipped and slided on the fresh grass in practise, but had another thing coming when they came out of the gate in race 1 ! The grass had been easy in comparison to the now completely cut up hairpin bends and adverse camber climbs. Louis Kessell obviously found it to his liking with 3 wins!He was followed home by Archie Bees and Harvey James in each race.Joseph Ackerlay also finished all his races whilst other unlucky ones didn’t.

Junior rider Aiden Williams fooled everyone by wearing a novice bib whilst riding like a pro,he was rarely challenged from the start.Henry Bees ,Callum Jago and Todd Sawyer were only seperated by 4 points for the runner up positions,Dan Roberts and Suzuki mounted Jordan Allen rounded out the top 6.

Cornish Racer Dean Symons once again won all the Small Wheel races with ease, leaving Dan Mundell and Brendon Cooper to battle it out for 2nd overall equal on points.Daniel Furse pipped four stroke rider Harry Davey to 4th overall with a great second race.Megan Butler showed the rest of the boys the way home in 6th.

Visiting Big Wheel victor Rob Hollyoaks put on a demonstration of bike control during the day, never in danger of being beaten in any of the races .Local boy Connor Palmer showed he has put behind him the injuries that sidelined him for most of last season by finishing 2nd despite a poor last race.Jumping into that vacated 2nd place in race 3 raised Cole Baker Edwards into the top three .The CRF monted trio of Jason Brooke,Jamie Buckingham and George Burrows were seperated by just 1 point each to fill the remaining top 6 positions.

The Regular Senior riders had their work cut out with all the new boys snapping at their heels for top honours.Aaron Jenkins eventualy got into his groove winning the last 2 races but didn’t have it all his own way,Simon Gill,Rocky Lethaby and Jack Stevens all doing the best to win races, fast and furious with no let up untill the flag.Harry Lawrence and Craig Furse were next.

Now with open bikes included the Amx group attracts all type of riders, bikes and ages, but it was the experience of Richard Marsh that took the overall without winning a race !First race winner Nick Lee couldn’t regain his form and ended up 3rd behind consistant Aaron Austin.Last years champion Garath Bunby 4th ,with double race victor Daniel Wyatt 5th after a dreadful first race. Unlucky Greg Pascoe ran out of luck and fuel in race 1,but finished 4th in both final races .Marcus Denham rounded out the top 6.

With rain starting to fall and the light fading the club enlisted the help of a tractor and 4x4 to ensure everyone got away home with minimum fuss.

The next club championship and BSMA qualifier is at a new venue for the club.
